I want to share a few helpful heartburn remedies for pregnancy.
I had heartburn very frequently during pregnancy and it got worse the further along I got. I already had to take medication for heartburn on a daily basis prior to and during pregnancy with Elliott and still had heartburn about every week or two. With my third, Elise, I had already taken myself off my previous daily medication, but still experienced heartburn prior to being pregnant with her as well. Although heartburn is an incredibly common occurrence during pregnancy, make sure you tell your doctor or midwife if you are experiencing it.
If one of these remedies didn’t work at the time, I just tried one of the others. Some days some worked better than others.
What worked for me
- Almond milk and almonds!
- Club crackers
- Cheese
- Bananas
- Yogurt (drinkable worked best!)
- Papaya Enzyme Tablets (I took them every night as preventative and they worked better for me that way versus during an episode)
- Chewy Rolaids
- Eating small, frequent meals
- Sleeping slightly upright, with my head elevated, and/or on my left side
What did not work for me but what I have heard works for others
- Yellow mustard
In addition to remedies to help soothe heartburn, try to limit what may be causing your heartburn. Some causes for me were:
- Coffee, tea, or other caffeinated beverages
- Tomatoes
- Excessive garlic
- Onions
- Spicy foods
- Anything mint flavored
- Eating too much at one time
I hope this helps. Let me know in the comments if any of these worked for you or if something else did!
